Mothers & Daughters...these are complicated relationships. The life long struggle between a mother and a daughter. Both the good and the bad. Was this always the way it was between mothers and daughters?
Mothers & daughters. So complicated to co-exist. There is frequently an unspoken rivalry. There is the act of competition and jealousy. Merriam-Webster dictionary describe this as a person tries to defeat or be more successful than the other person. And so I ask myself...Am I really like my mother? Genertics show us that we look like great Aunt Sue but we also sound like her, walk like her. So....yes, I probably am just like my mother!
This painting is all about the mother-daughter relationship. You try to be yourself, not reflecting of the actions and reactions of your mother, but then it appears. You respond to a situation just as she might have done. Am I my own person or did I just repeat the behaviors of my mother....who may have repeated the behaviors of her mother. A vicious cycle. The three masks are of my mother, myself and my daughter.
